2024 Gold Glove Award winners: Bobby Witt Jr., Carlos Santana among 14 first-time honorees - The Athletic

This year’s group of Gold Glove Award winners featured 14 first-time recipients, including Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman and Minnesota Twins first baseman Carlos Santana.

The other first-time winners are Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh and utilityman Dylan Moore, Royals pitcher Seth Lugo, Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Brice Turang and right fielder Sal Frelick, San Francisco Giants catcher Patrick Bailey, Atlanta Braves pitcher Chris Sale, Pittsburgh Pirates utility man Jared Triolo, Red Sox right fielder Wilyer Abreu, Toronto Blue Jays center fielder Daulton Varsho and Colorado Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar.

Tovar, 23, is the youngest Gold Glove-winning shortstop in National League history.

The 2022 season also had 14 first-time winners. That was also the first year utility players were added to the list of Gold Glove recipients.

Among this year’s winners with multiple Gold Glove honors, Giants third baseman Matt Chapman earned his fifth to lead the list. He is only the fifth active MLB player to earn the award five-plus times and joins the St. Louis Cardinals’ Nolan Arenado (10), the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Mookie Betts (six), the Royals’ Salvador Perez (five) and the Astros’ Jason Heyward (five) in the elite group.

Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker, Chicago Cubs left fielder Ian Happ, Guardians left fielder Steven Kwan and Guardians second baseman Andrés Giménez each won their third Gold Gloves.
